The library of Sobolev Institute of Mathematics of the SB RAS has the edition of little currently known book "Nouvelles pensees sur le systeme de M. Descartes, et la maniere dТen deduire les Orbites & les Aphelies des Planetes. Piece qui a remporte le prix propose par l'Academie Royale des Sciences pour l'annee 1730" by Johann Bernoulli (1667-1748) that was published in 1730 in Paris in his lifetime.

The author of the book is one of creators, distributors an top expert on mathematical analysis that had been conceived that time, the founder of calculus of variations, a scientist, who made invaluable contribution to development of methods of solutions of differential equations and mathematisation of mechanics.

In the book, the name of which could be translated as "New thoughts about Descartes' system and ensuing method of calculation of planet orbits and aphelion. Awarded by Royal Academy of Science in 1730" Johann Bernoulli applied a novel for that time calculation of infinitesimals to the basis of Descartes' vortex theory. However the theory was replaced by Newton gravity theory that could explain low popularity of the book.
